Carolina Rapezzi has made a name for herself for her work documenting social, environmental, and humanitarian issues around the world.

One of her most compelling projects, “Burning Dreams,” takes us into the scene of Agbogbloshie, Ghana—once the world’s largest e-waste landfill. Here, towering mountains of discarded electronics were dumped, endangering the local communities and the ecosystem alike. While Agbogbloshie itself no longer exists, the e-waste crisis is still at large in Accra, with informal recycling of e-waste now scattered across the region.

Part of Carolina’s reportage is her award-winning photograph of Rashida, a young girl who travelled from northern Ghana to sell water to the scrap yard workers of Agbogbloshie. Rashida’s story is one of many that Carolina brought to the public eye with the power of her camera.
